This coil-built micaceous clay vessel was kiln fired black with a tufa-cast sterling silver flower as the handle. The handle was attached to the lid using Chicago screws and leather washers.

Deconstruction

This coil-built micaceous clay vessel was filed with a rough file and kiln fired black with a cast sterling silver corrugated sheet as the handle. The base of the handle was formed using pieces from my scrap bin and then boiled in liver of sulfur to achieve a gunmetal color. The handle was attached to the lid using Chicago screws and leather washers.

Sprite

This coil-built micaceous clay vessel was kiln fired black with a tufa-cast sterling silver handle representing a sprite atop dark storm clouds. The base depicts a Mesa landscape with numerous lightning bolts across the sky. The lightning design was incised onto the surface and filled with silver leaf. The handle was attached to the lid using Chicago screws and leather washers.

Lone Pine Plate

This coil-built micaceous clay plate was incised with an image of a pine tree from Lone Pine Mesa with moon in the background. It was traditionally fired with cottonwood and split cedar and finished with an applique of pine pitch.

Bean Pot

This coil-built micaceous clay vessel was traditionally fired with cottonwood and split cedar. it has three handles wrapped in copper wire, with the two on the sides oriented opposite each other, one vertically and the other horizontally.

This coil-built micaceous clay vessel was kiln fired with a reduction firing to achieve the black finish. It is incised with a checkerboard pattern, reflected in the sterling silver handle atop. The handle was attached with bent wires to secure it to the lid.

Mimbres Fish

This coil-built micaceous clay vessel was kiln fired with a reduction firing to achieve the black finish. A sterling silver sheet constructed fish breaking the water serves as the handle, attached with bent wires to secure it to the lid. It is incised with a bubble design emanating from the base of the bowl.
